Long Time Driver Says He Should Have Been with Mercer All Along
Mercer driver, Fred Womer, says Mercer has been a great company to drive for during his 15 year tenure with the company.
Womer, of Hughesville, Pa., began his driving career 45 years ago and says he wishes he had spent more than just 15 of them with Mercer.
“I should have started with Mercer 25 years ago instead,” he says. He adds that Mercer is truly a company full of amazing people. “The people at Mercer are great! They really treat you like a human being rather than just a name on the wall. A lot of companies claim to, but don’t do such a great job at keeping their word.”
According to Womer, there is more than just the people to Mercer. “The money is good at Mercer and I get great home time,” he says. “I get home every weekend. It’s great that I can spend the weekend where I want to spend it, at home, rather than in some driver lounge somewhere on the road.”
In his ample home time, Womer enjoys football and Texas-Hold ‘Em. He and his wife, who owns her own business, are in the process of opening their own bar. “We’ll have our own business to keep us busy when we retire,” he says. Womer has three sons and two daughters, all of whom are grown and making it well on their own. Womer primarily hauls machinery and plastics throughout Mid-America from Minnesota down
through Texas.
Mercer freight includes aluminum and metal products, building materials, plastics, machinery, military items, cable and much more.
The company offers owner operators a family-oriented atmosphere and convenient generous home time plus supplemental programs such as TripPak EXPRESS and optional worker's compensation coverage.
By operating a network of terminal/agent locations throughout the United States and Canada, Mercer ensures ample opportunities for its contractors.
