Stacithomasbig
Staci Thomas was selected to be “In the Headlights” this month. Staci is the Safety and Compliance Manager at Mercer. Here’s what Staci has to share with us:

Q: How long have you been at Mercer? Where have you worked?

A: I have worked at Mercer twice. The first time was in 1988 for 10 years. I worked in Accounts Payable, Government, OD Permits, Permits, and then became the Manager of Rates. I left for a short time and returned in March 2000 as Truck Pay’s Manager. Then I moved to Safety and am currently the Safety and Compliance Manager and the Purchasing Manager.

Q: What do you like about Mercer?

A: I’m proud to say I work at Mercer because it’s a name that’s known in the industry as a top-notch organization. I take pride in that because each of us play a very important role in that success. I also appreciate the fact that hard work is recognized and valued at Mercer.

Q: As we know you are the Safety & Compliance Manager. Are there any safety tips you would like to share with us?

A: If you do it, LOG IT!

Q: What are your hobbies/ interests?
A: I am into photography and scrap booking. Here lately I have become addicted to Internet Scrabble! My vocabulary has improved, but my husband has had to pick up the slack around the house.

Q: What is your favorite holiday?
A: Absolutely Christmas! I love the magic and joy that surrounds Christmas. It turns me into a child again.

Q: What would you say are your strengths/ weaknesses in your job?

A: I would say a strength I have is that I am a people person and enjoying learning from others. One of my weaknesses would be that I take on too much which gets me a little stressed at times!

Q: Who is your favorite Hollywood Star?

A: Meryl Streep is the first name that comes to mind. Meryl is considered one of the greatest living film actresses. She has been nominated 14 times for Academy Award and won twice. She is known for being able to master almost any accent.

Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: Anything Mexican

Q: What is your greatest accomplishment?

A: I have been married for 22 years. And I walked 60 miles in 3 days this year and raised $4200 for breast cancer research and treatment. My friends at Mercer helped me raise the money and supported me in countless ways.

Q: Where do you see yourself in the next 5, 10 & 15 years?

A: I plan to have won the lottery and retired to my own private island, but if that doesn’t work out I hope to be at Mercer, as happy as I am today. I also plan on continuing to walk and do charity work. Either way I hope to become a grandma some day and spend lots of time spoiling my grandkids!

Q: What is your favorite kind of animal?

A: Dogs – “Brady” is my 1½ year old black Lab mix. He rules our household. I love ‘em to death!

Q: What inspires you?

A: Knowing that my actions can help other people. In this busy world, people sometimes lose a bit of themselves in just trying to make it through their own day to day routine. We forget that other people are fighting battles much more difficult than us and we can help them. I have been inspired to get the word out about breast cancer while raising money and participating in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3 Day. When I first thought about walking 60 miles in 3 days I wondered if I had bitten off more than I could chew. Along the way the training got harder and harder but I kept telling myself that if people could endure chemo I could walk and raise money. As they say at the beginning of the journey, “It all begins with lacing up your shoes.” I have to also add that it’s about finding your passion in life. Find your passion and live it.
