January Contractor of the Month

Ricky Brown
Recently, Joe Freeman was parked at a truck stop in Summerville, South Carolina when he suddenly felt ill and blacked out in his truck. When he came to, it was clear that something was very wrong. He called friend and fellow Mercer ower operator, Ricky Brown, for help.  They'd met six months prior, and had caught up from time to time on the road. Freeman knew that Brown was also parked at the truck stop, and an added bonus- Brown was a North Carolina native who happened to have his personal vehicle in tow.

Freeman recalls, "Ricky was in the truckstop eating breakfast when I called. He dropped everything, picked me up in his van and drove me to the hospital. He even called my wife and stayed with me in the hospital the whole time."

Doctors later determined that Freeman was suffering from symptoms of  Type 2 Diabetes. Thanks to Brown's help, he was able to make a speedy recovery.

This is not the first time that Brown has been eager to lend a hand to a Mercer brother. He is known to keep his van parked at the Summersville truck stop, and he often offers rides to drivers who need to run errands or get a bite to eat. He recently drove two drivers to get thier TWIC cards, and another to get a routine blood test.

Brown, who has been with Mercer for 20 years, says, "I know how it is to be at a truckstop, and sometimes it is nice to be able to get away. Mercer has been really good to me over the years, and I don't mind helping out."
