January's Letter from Recruiting

2008small

Hello again, and welcome to 2008.

This time of year is always exciting to me for a few reasons -- one being that it is a time to reflect on the past year and find ways to improve myself; another reason is the anticipation of a new year with new and unknown challenges that lie ahead.

I really think that this year will be a defining year in trucking; there are many challenges in the industry right now including fuel prices and freight availability. The owner operators that make it through the tough times in trucking are the ones who can efficiently run their businesses. I think a good first step is to track your overhead if you aren’t already doing so. Let’s face it, it’s not getting any easier to make it in trucking and the only way to cut your overhead is to understand how much you’re spending. By closely keeping track of all of your expenses, you can look for places to save that will add up over the course of a year. There are, of course, many products available to try to help you save, ranging from products for your truck to financial services, but I think that just keeping track of spending is a great start for any of us who are looking to send a little more of our money to the bank.

We have quite a few fun events scheduled already for 08, and a few surprises that we’re working on so be sure to check in regularly on our news and events at Mercertown.com. I’m really looking forward to spending another year with the best owner operators in the business. Thanks for all that you do!
