Here is a poem he wrote, inspired by Mercer drivers at the recent Mid-America Trucking Show.

Mercer Truckers

I need to clear up something that was said

It’s about the folks that pull a flatbed

Some drivers say they’re a grimy lot,

But I’m here to tell you all are not

When I told my friends, to Mercer I was going

One made out like they were all knowing

One said he heard that it’s a real good place

And he said this with this with a big smile on his face

He said I heard the job came with two pre-greased T shirts

I told him look out man, my feeling’s you’ll hurt

He was on old cow hauler, with starch in his clothes

He said you can’t clean a flatbedder with a high power hose

I’ve seen them around, and they're a dirty bunch

They don’t even wash their hands, before they eat lunch

He pointed out one of our competitors, in a beat up truck

And said that’s what you’ll look like when you grow up

Well by now I had started to build a little of rage

I said that’s not a Mercer hand, have you gone blind with age

I’ve seen some Mercer trucks, I mean big rooster cruisers

Not these little trucks, like you cow hauler loser’s

So I went to work for Mercer, I made the turn

Now I want to tell you some more things that I’ve learned

I’ve met some of the best people, and they’re all clean

And I found out this Mercer bunch, is really a team

They bunch up at the truck stops, when they're out on the go

You can find them in a corner, or on the back row

Helping each other, working on their trucks

Visiting, cleaning, and polishing up

Most of them aren’t trying to make you think they're cool

They don’t need to, they're from the old school

When you call the office, there’s no answering machine

You talk to a live person, on the Mercer team

We recruit a lot of drivers, but only the good ones can stay

But that’s the way with good companies in trucking today

You can pick the loads that you want to do

Whatever you haul is strictly up to you

All the limits you have, are the ones that you set

The fewer you put on yourself, the better your bet

The pay is as good as the industry will allow

So become a part of the Mercer Team now

Tell them Dollar sent you, and they’ll give me a check

Then I can buy some chrome for my old wreck

If you’re a good hand, I’ll enjoy working with you

But if your not, we’ll get rid of you too
