Mercer Will Participate in Cab Cook-Off

Cookinginthecab
A few Mercer contractors are making room in their cabs for their crock pots and microwaves, because they are gearing up to participate in the first ever Internet Truckstop Cooking in the Cab Challenge. The competition will debut during the 2008 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY. Mercer's team of talented cab cooks will turn up the heat and compete against other trucking companies, to create the most delicious cab-cooked dishes.

Mercer feels that the event will be an important retention tool. The cook-off will showcase the owner operators’ talents while creating a fun, competitive atmosphere to elevate team spirit and morale within the company. More importantly, the focus on cab cooking encourages Mercer’s contractors to adopt healthier eating habits while out on the road. After spending weeks in a truck, the usual truck stop fare, fast food and mysterious vending machine dinners wreak havoc on drivers’ bodies.

Preparing a square meal in the tight quarters of one’s cab can prove to be a challenge. It is an art form perfected by creative, resourceful cooks who are not afraid to throw a steak on the engine block or bake a dozen cookies on a George Foreman Grill. Equipped with inspiration, open minds and competitive spirits, Mercer’s team of cooks are confident that they will dish out a heaping serving of tough competition.

Mercer owner operator and cook-off participant, Debbie Berkel, is excited to have this opportunity to represent her company by showcasing her talent. “This is a great way for us to let loose and have fun!” says Berkel.

The buzz of excitement that this competition has created only strengthens the sense of community within the company.  Events like this lend to Mercer’s reputation for having the most supportive, family atmosphere in the industry.
