Road to Better Health
This month, we talked to Emily Anderson, chef at Whole Foods Market, about what healthy eating advice she would offer to an OTR truck driver. She has come up with 5 fabulous and easy eating tips for Mercer contractors who are concerned about their health:
1. Keep a cooler stocked with a variety of simple and healthy foods so you don't get bored and resort to fast food and snacks that are tempting out on the road.
2. Try to limit processed foods. Basically, if it has more ingredients than you have fingers, it probably isn't very good for you.
3. When eating at a truckstop buffet, resort to baked or broiled meats, rice, vegetables and fruit.
4. Stop eating when you are full. Be aware of how your body is feeling and eat slowly.
5. Spring is approaching! Pack a small grill ('Lil Smokey) and grill vegetables and lean meats. Its a nice, relaxing alternative to a restaurant.
