Sam and Carol Cook
Mercer Contractor Proudly Contributes to the Company’s Ongoing Success
Owner-operator, Sam Cook, insists that trucking is the best way for him to make a living, and there is no company he’d rather be driving for than Mercer Transportation.
Cook, who has spent more than twenty years in the Middle Tennessee area, has been driving professionally since 1982. He has been leased to Mercer for three-and-a-half years.
“They’ve been great!” he exclaims.
Upon leasing to Mercer, Cook also began teaming with his wife, Carol, who has been driving professionally for about ten years, intermittently. “We raised our three kids, and once they were out on their own, I told her -- if that truck was going anywhere, she was going to be in it with me! That truck hardly goes anywhere without her in it. And she’s ok with that,” says Sam.
The Cooks enjoy their career at Mercer. “If you’re someone who is willing to put a little effort into your career, Mercer is a great place to be,” emphasizes Sam.
“Teamwork is an important part of our career … and they really do their part.” Carol agrees, “Mercer is the best!”
Sam and Carol, who run everywhere but mostly out west, recently bought 150 acres in Durham, Kansas. Mercer gives the Cooks enough home time to be able to enjoy their new place. Sam says, “We spend most of our home time fixing up our new property.”
Sam remembers seeing Mercer trucks on the road while driving for a previous employer. “I just figured, with their history, they’d be a good company to work for.” They haven’t let him down yet. By operating a network of terminal/agent locations throughout the United States and in Canada, Mercer always ensures various opportunities for its contractors.
Mercer freight includes military items, metal products, building materials, plastics, machinery, cable and much more. The company offers owneroperators ample freight, generous home time and a great family atmosphere, plus 100 percent support, 100 percent of the time.
