Showusyourtruck.com's August Winners
"Tired Iron" and "Optimus Lime"
This month at Showusyourtruck.com, the winning rigs are two truck show beauty queens steered and geared for a hard day’s work. Scott Lagestee’s aptly-named “Optimus Lime” is a hot-roddin’, low-ridin’ green machine, amped up for the heavy-haul. Randy & Jona Rebillard’s “Tired Iron” is a unique, beautifully detailed 18-wheeler, inspired by an antique steam traction engine.
In the Mercer Transportation category, Scott Lagestee’s “Optimus Lime” was the winning truck, with its low profile, lime green truck and matching step deck. After speaking to Lagestee, it is clear that “Optimus Lime” is just like one of the family. Not only is the truck a key source of their livelihood, but the ongoing maintenance and design is a family project that has bonded them like a sit-down Sunday dinner. Everyone plays a role in cleaning and prepping the truck for a show. Lagestee’s three sons are the masterminds behind the name (Transformers anyone?), custom decals and the truck’s motto emblazoned on the interior: “It’s not how fast you go, it’s how cool you get there.” Lagestee’s wife stays busy on other flashy details, such as the hand-sewn pillowcases that decorate the bunk’s bedding. Lagestee says, “Green is in our blood. Without the help from my wife and kids, there’s no way this truck would look the way it does.”
The Lagestees inherited the truck’s theme from previous owner, Scott Ellis. Since they’ve purchased the truck, the Lagestee family has tried to continue building on the lime hot-rod inspired motif. The 2003 Peterbilt 379 features an extended hood, 300” wheelbase, C 15 Cat engine and 13-speed transmission. Truck Gutz in Joplin, Missouri did the truck’s interior. Lagestee plans to put “Optimus Lime” in the limelight, so to speak, at next year’s Mid America Trucking Show. When the truck is not being cleaned and tinkered with at home, Lagestee knows how to put it to work. Lagestee has owned the truck for five years, and it is approaching the 800,000th mile marker.
In the “Best of the Rest” category, Randy and Jona Rebillard’s “Tired Iron” stole the show with their steam engine themed ’02 379. The exterior has been designed to resemble the rustic quality of the antique steam traction engine that once dotted America’s rural landscape. Randy, who happens to be a licensed steam engineer and collector of antique farm equipment, accented the truck’s paint scheme with faux-rust detailing. In addition, the truck features a custom Truck Rodz hood and fenders and 1932 Ford headlights. Inside the truck, one can see where Jona’s eye for design comes into play. The Rockwood interior and African Rosewood floor blends perfectly with the sophisticated stamped tin ceiling. Jona, who dabbles in glasswork, designed and handcrafted the cab’s rear stained glass window, which draws attention wherever they go.
The Rebillards have enjoyed pouring all of their creative and physical energy into the truck, and look forward to spending time at the shows with their “truck show family.” The truck recently appeared in the Great America Trucking Show’s Pride and Polish, and they plan to participate in several shows next year. Randy says, “When we quit having fun, we will quit showing.” Until then, “Tired Iron” will keep on truckin’ with over 960,000 miles under its belt, collecting dirt and grease along the way.
