Q: When did you start working at Mercer?
A: About a year and a half ago ... and hope to be here for many many more.
Q: What do you like most about working at Mercer?
A: I love the way everyone gets along. There are not too many companies now of days that are very family oriented like Mercer. From the employees to the drivers, we are one big happy family.
Q: Your birthday was last week. How did you celebrate?
A: I just turned 29 and I feel great! Me, my nine year old daughter and my high school BFF, Jennifer Combs and her boys hung out by the pool and relaxed all day.
Q: What do you do here? What is a typical day like for you?
A: I am the administrative assistant for the safety director and facility manager. I run the company store, selling equipment and other company store items to all. I've been working on reorganizing the filing system in the warehouse. Big job but I love to stay busy and help out in any way possible.
Q: What is your favorite comfort food?
A: I love pizza and chocolate ... who doesn't?
Q: What are you looking forward to?
A: Friday! Labor Day Weekend! Everyone have a safe holiday weekend.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am proud of my daughter, Chelsea. She does very well in school and she loves to paint and draw. She wants to be an artist or a veterinarian when she grows up. She is my #1 accomplishment.
Q: What are you afraid of?
A: I am afraid of heights although I will fly ... crazy.
Q: Finish this sentence: people would be surprised to know that I ...
A: ... love to paint. I am another Picasso.
Q: Name one place you've always wanted to visit.
A: I would love to visit Italy. I would stroll through the streets, check out all the museums and enjoy laid back life.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I have two pit bulls that are like my kids. They are very loving and friendly. Also, my daughter has a teddy bear hamster named Buddy.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: My all-time favorite is the Goonies. (I know I would fit right in.)
P.S: Chasity wanted to add, "Everyone always asks why smile a lot. Just remember a smile can travel a long way!"

Trucks line up outside the Dallas Convention Center for the Great American Truck Show, August 20-22nd, 2009
Hello all!
We recently got back into Mercertown from the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, TX. I have to say, I wasn't really sure what to expect, with the economy being down, freight being slower, and attendance being down at all of the shows this year. Turns out that the Randall Reilly Company hosted a great event despite a small dip in attendance. There were some very nice show trucks on display, quality entertainment at the Friday night concert, and as usual, we got to spend time with some of our contractors, who by the way, are not only some of the best owner operators around, but some of the best people you will ever meet.
I did notice that there were quite a few trucking companies that normally attend the show that were absent this year. I won't name any names or single anyone out because I have a lot of respect for Landstar and some of our other competition but it sure did feel nice when their contractors stop by our booth to talk and mention that their company isn't being represented at the show. Not because I wish anything bad for the competition, but because it feels good to be out there representing Mercer even when many companies aren't showing. It felt even better when they came by Saturday and heard our contractors talking about the great dinner that we all shared Friday night!! Thanks for joining us for dinner you guys - Johanna, Dennis and myself thoroughly enjoyed your company and sharing a meal with you all.
This is probably our last big truck show of the year, so there probably won't be many opportunities for us folks working at Mercer to get out on the road to see you guys. So please, stop by and visit when you are coming through town. Also, don't forget to check the event schedule because Dennis will be hosting Driver Appreciation Events all over the south this fall. Until next time, look out for one another and Move one more load safely.

LKY Field Inspection Schedule
by Safety Director, Len Dunman
I will be at the MSU office in Sunbury, PA on Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22 doing Louisville inspections. On Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2, I will be doing Louisville inspections at the HIA office in beautiful Caddo Valley, AR.
I will be doing Louisville inspections during the third week of October (dates not final) in Newberry, SC at Dowd's Diesel and during the second week of November (dates not final) at the TPA office in Plant City, FL.
If you need a Louisville inspection, but have a problem getting to Louisville, these are the last four chances you have this year to get one in the field. You or your coordinator should let me know so I can put you down on one of these four lists. If you need a Hazmat HM 232 update, I will also be doing those. Let me know. Be safe.
