In The Headlights: Tiffanie Borden
This month, we're ringing in the new year with a special 2010 edition of In the Headlights. We'll kick it off with Tiffanie Borden of OD Permits!
Q: What is your position at Mercer? What is a typical day like for you? A: I am the OD Permit lead person. In a typical day, I answer phones, work with math and the computer system.
Q: How long have you worked at Mercer? What did you do before this job? A: I've worked at Mercer for 8 years. before that, I was a receptionist/book keeper at a tax office.
Q: What are you most proud of? A: My kids.
Q: Do you have any hobbies? A: I like to read - other than that, not really. Does bunco count? (Yes!)
Q: What super power would you most like to have? A: I'd like to know what people are thinking, but to be able to switch it on and off whenever I want. I wouldn't want to be like Mel Gibson in What Women Want.
Q: If the fourth grade version of yourself met you today, do you think she would like you? A: Absolutely!
Q: Share an embarrassing moment with us. We will try not to laugh or judge. A: I think it was my 2nd or 3rd year here and I went to sit down in my chair and my pants split right up my butt! I borrowed a jacket to wrap around my waist so that it would conceal it!! Q: What is your New Years resolution for 2010? A: I would like to quit smoking so hopefully I can do that at some point in 2010. Other than that, I will stay positive in thinking that 2010 will be a better year.
Q: Reflecting on 2009, what realization or event occurred that had a positive influence on you? A: I realized that although we may have it hard, there is always a way to work through financial stress. It doesn't do any good to sit around and get depressed or give up. We have to take initiative to change our own situations. There are always people that have it worse than we do. We still have jobs and that is really something to be thankful for! I hope 2010 is a more prosperous year for us all.

Hello once again from glorious Mercertown! I am writing you this on a cold December day, wondering where the heck this year has went. It had been a challenging year in the trucking industry, and we have all seen ups and downs for sure. All we can do is prepare for the year ahead, hope for a rebound in the economy and freight and stay focused on the positive things in our lives. I, for one, am starting off on the right foot by committing to some New years Resolutions. For those of you out there that are having trouble coming up with some good resolutions, feel free to use some of mine listed below.
- I will spend less time worrying about the mistakes I have made in the past and more time planning the mistakes I'll make in the future.
- I will not speak to others unless I can say something nice to them.
- I will eventually give up on that last one and start speaking to Len Dunman.
- I will stop being so repetitive.
- I will stop being so repetitive.
- I will not make lists.
- I will stop sitting in my living room all weekend while the sun is shining outside, surfing the web. Instead, I will take my computer to a different room.
- i will stop being so superstitious.
- Buy a new rabbit's foot.
- I will stop being so repetitive
- Stop procrastinating, although, I'll probably wait until June to start that one.
- Stop sending rude emails to coworkers.
- Call more of my coworkers.
- I will stop insulting the boss with the same lame excuses for not getting my work completed on time.
- Spend more time thinking of new excuses.
I hope some of these are helpful for you guys. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick to them all or not. I do however know this:
Even with the tough year that our industry has seen, I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I do for a living and to do it with such a great group of people. Thank all of you guys out there for your hard work and dedication to the trucking industry. Happy New Year!!

make sure we get it on time so please mail any overnight envelopes to the

Wounded Warrior Project Mercer Transportation's campaign to
raise funds for the "Wounded Warrior Project" has surpassed the $5000 mark as of
early December. Our goal is to raise at least $25000 by July 4th,
2010.
A special thanks to Tom and
Debbie Berkel (Unit # 295) for their fund raising efforts at the
silent auction in October. As a result of their efforts, nearly $6,000
total was collected for charities and $1,700 of the funds were contributed
to the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Mercer Company Store now has
Mercer/Wounded Warrior t-shirts for sale. Cost of the
shirts are $12.00 each. These are heavy material t-shirts with or
without a pocket. 100% of the profit goes to the WWP
fund.
We hope to have truck decals and
hats for sale soon at the Mercer Company Store.
Special Notice to ALL
Contractors: We now have a monthly deduction system set up for
contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project. You can choose a dollar
amount ($10, $15, $20, etc) to be deducted once each month to go directly to the
WWP fund. Just contact your Truck Pay person or your Truck Coordinator to
arrange a contribution.
Upcoming Mercer - Wounded Warrior
events:
- Bowling Tournament for WWP is being
planned for February in the Louisville area.
- Golf Tournament for WWP is being
planned for April in the Louisville area
- Super Silent Auction for WWP is
being planned for June
Thanks to everyone for your
contributions. I am sure our wounded veterans appreciate your kindness and
support. -Joel Franklin
