In The Headlights: Gina Guthrie

This month, Gina Guthrie is featured "in the headlights." She is the familiar face located in Mercer's Permit department.

Q: How long have you worked at Mercer?
A: I started as a temp in December of '92 and went full-time in April of '93. So about 16 1/2 years.

Q: Have you always been in Permits at Mercer?
A: No, I started in Logs and then switched to Permits.

Q: What do you like most about working here?
A: The people. This is my second home. These people are my family.

Q: What do you like to do on the weekends?
A: I love going shopping and going to Tumbleweed for margaritas. Also, my favorite thing to do is read.

Q: What are you reading now?
A: Spotlight on Desire. I like romance and mystery novels. Since January, I've read over 100 books. I go to the library and check out a stack at a time.

Q: What's the last movie you saw in the theater?
A: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I love Harry Potter, but I didn't like this one. It was nothing like the book! I went because my son likes it and he's read all of the books.

Q: Finish this sentence: People would be surprised to know that I ...
A: am totally different outside of work. I am funny, lovable and generous.

Q: I heard you liked to cook. What is your go-to recipe?
A: Mostacolli

Q: Do you collect anything?
A: I collect hats and anything Scooby Doo.

Q: What celebrity did you have a crush on as a teenager?
A: Sean Connery. I think he is still handsome!

Q: Who is your role model?
A: My Mom. My Dad was in the military and she was the one who always kept the family together. She taught me how to stand up for myself.

Q: If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would you go?
A: I have never had a real vacation! I have not seen the ocean or even been to a beach. But there are three places I've always wanted to see since I was little: Hawaii, Alaska (cruise) and Austrailia- I think I watched too many Crocodile Dundee movies as a kid.

Visitors to this year's Truckers Jamboree enjoyed the firework show.

Hello everyone, greetings once again from Mercertown!

I hope everyone out there is doing well. I am in the midst of playing catch up around the office after a wonderful trip to Walcott, Iowa for the Truckers Jamboree.

This year's show was interesting to say the least. There was a bunch of rain Wednesday on the way up and some really bad storms rained us out of our booth on Friday. Despite the weather, I think this may have been one of the most enjoyable shows that I have ever attended. I enjoyed spending time with some old, dear friends and got better acquainted with some new friends. (You guys all know who you are, and I appreciate everything that you do for us.)

We haven't been able to do much traveling this year, and Walcott was a great opportunity to get out and remember why attending these shows are so much fun - Mercer contractors. There is no doubt in my mind that we have some of the greatest people you will ever meet right here at Mercer. Are they great business partners in trucking? Yes, but that isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about genuinely great people to hang out with and get to know.

Check out the rest of the newsletter and read up on the trophies that Mercer contractors reeled in at the show, as well as other things going on around Mercer. Connie - thanks for dinner at the show. Mercer Contractors - thanks for dinner each night at home.

Be careful out there and look out for one another.
