In The Headlights: Tony Borden
This month, Tony Borden is featured "in the headlights." Tony is Mercer's new Trailer Lease Administrator.
Q: What is your position at Mercer? What is a typical day like for you?
A: I am the Trailer Lease Purchase Administrator. I'm not sure I've held this position long enough to have a "typical day" - each day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn something new.
Q: How long have you worked at Mercer? What did you do before this job?
A: I have been with Mercer for a little over a year, first working 3rd shift security and moving to my current position about a month ago. Before working here I had several jobs, most notable is my eight years spent serving with the Marine Corps.
Q: What are you most proud of?
A: I am most proud of my two awesome kids.
Q: What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
A: Spending time with my family, watching a little football and trying now to pick up 10 extra pounds.
Q: What do you like doing on the weekends?
A: I usually spend my weekends hanging out with my kids, watching movies and gaming online with some friends.
Q: What super power would you most like to have?
A: call me Bluntman. I have the powerful ability to say it like it is. But like all superpowers, used without restraint can cause harm.
Q: Name one thing people would be surprised to learn about you.
A: I'm a closet nerd. Not only am I a gamer, but I also know how to build computers.
Q: If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: I would have to go with pizza. Seriously, it meets all your dietary needs in one slice.
Q: Who would win in a fight, a bear or a shark?
A: I would put my money on the bear. The shark only has teeth, but the bear has teeth and claws.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Mercer?
A: The family atmosphere. The people at Mercer have been extremely friendly since my first day on the job.

Hello again and Happy Thanksgiving!!
This is also officially the month for giving thanks, so I would like to give thanks for my wonderful family, all of my co-workers here in Louisville who make work fun, and all of our hard working owner operators that make us the best trucking company around. Can't think of anything in particular to be thankful for? No problem--Here are my top 10 reasons to be thankful:
10. We still don't have a reefer division.
9. Log book changes haven't gotten so bad that we are now working under the
"hour" of service.
8. Sooner or later, that guy at the table next to you will get his meal and stop his rant titled, "All we have to do to fix this industry is ..."
7. They can't fit many more numbers on the diesel price signs.
6. That 4-wheeler swerving in front of you and talking on the cell phone gets off at he next exit.
5. On your next load, you probably won't have to be accompanied by a cowboy
in a black trans-am to "run interference".
4. You don't have a co-driver named The Bear.
3. Ohio might be planning to raise the speed limit all the way to 30!!
2. Your drag link does pass inspection.
And the #1 reason to be thankful this year ...
One word: Giblets!!!!
In all seriousness, thanks to all of you who have signed up for the newsletter, and keep checking in on the News & Events section of www.mercertown.com.
See you next month,
Brian Helton
